Can you believe that it's been over 30 years now that Brennan's has been hosting the grand daddy of all oxymoron's? TURTLE RACES..... As a crowd huddles around a 10X10 padded mat behind the bar underneath the night sky, they fall witness to one of the greatest remaining free entertainment bar shows in Southern California. Now depending on the hour and the type of bar, we all get a free show from time to time. But this show doesn't rely on human humiliation or a certain level of intoxication. At this show, we wait in anxious anticipation to see one of the slowest races of all time. Just when you think that you've seen it all because you've sat down or stood up for one race in your past, you're wrong. When was the last time you actually witnessed proof that any species was 100% predictable. It is true, I have witnessed my four legged tiny green friends drop it into another gear that I never knew existed in the Turtle Kingdom and high tail it on two legs right off the mat. Even if that last statement isn't true, the Turtle Races down at Brennan's Pub are and will always remain to be a staple in Southern Californian bar culture.
